Scouter’s Minute – Fun!

While the AIMS of Scouting are pretty weighty — Character, Citizenship, Personal Fitness, Leadership — the methods that we use to achieve those goals include ACTIVITIES!

Boys can see adventure in a dirty old duck puddle, and if the Scoutmaster is a boys’ man he can see it too.

Lord Robert Baden-Powell

Making sure that the Scouts are having fun is a top priority. Without fun, the scouts would quickly leave for other activities and programs. For me, sometimes its hard to go into a meeting with a plan on what you need to accomplish, only to be derailed by the giggles or a bunch of jokes. In those moments, I try not to lose patience and instead, I let the kids work out their energy. Sometimes that means shifting to a different activity. Other times its best to delay the “lesson” for another day. Some days that is harder than it appears but hopefully the kids enjoy their time in scouting.
